Robert Bateman is a well known Industrial and Corporate Photographer with over 40 years experience. His initial training and experience was with Guy & Company Ltd of Cork, at the time one of the most widely acclaimed and well known wedding and commercial photographic studios in Ireland, and undertook his City and Guilds qualification examinations and certification in Liverpool. He has been self employed for over thirty-five years in the Industrial, Corporate and Marine photographic areas in Ireland. His work is widely acknowledged and his client list includes many of the most well known names in the business area.
The work of Robert Bateman encompasses a variety of specialist areas. His portfolio captures milestone images for clients in sectors including infrastructure and architectural photography, the pharmaceutical industry, marine photography and general corporate photography. His progress photography has recorded many of the landmark developments in Ireland from pre-start through to completion. One of his major projects was four years of construction photography on the Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork. The pharmaceutical sector has always played a major role in his brief. He lists the most prominent company names in Ireland in his clientele. His unrivalled experience and sensitivity as a photographer, coupled with painstaking attention to detail, was called on while working for a period of nine months on the wreckage of the Aer India disaster that occurred off the Irish coast with the loss of over three hundred lives. Robert's marine photographic experience is legendary. Having served for many years as official photographer to Verolme Cork Dockyard until its closure, his archives of marine activity in Ireland span some 30 years. This outstanding material has featured in Time Magazine, in The Harbour series on RTE and in numerous newspaper features and other publications. He constantly receives requests for use of his images on prominent websites.
Aerial photography forms a major part of his work and he has been working in this area of photography for many years. He uses both helicopter and fixed wing aircraft. Over the years the service has grown from flights covering the Munster area to the island of Ireland, Britain and various European venues including Italy, Germany, Belgium and France. While the subject matter of the aerial work is very varied, the core area focuses principally on infrastructure and development projects. Notable projects in this portfolio include the Jack Lynch Tunnel, University College Cork Brookfield and IT Units, Cork University Hospital projects including the Maternity and Cardiac/Renal units, Cork Airport Development, Kinsale Road Roundabout ,and major bypasses serving the towns of Watergrasshill, Youghal, Mitchelstown, Castleisland and the Nenagh/Castletown Motorway.
